The security team at Hennepin Healthcare is amazing. This third week in September we celebrate National Security Officer Appreciation Week. Not only do our team members carry 20 pounds of safety gear during eight and 12-hour shifts, they handle about 100,000 calls a year and cover a few miles every shift. The job also requires emotional juggling needs addressing various interactions from comforting someone who just lost their loved one to de-escalating tough situations. More about our security team:

  • Along with our management team we are allotted the following positions:
    • Seven Supervisors
      • One of said seven Supervisors is for the SOC (Security Operations Center)
    • 62 Officers (presently have 51 active Officers (2 Officers on military leave)
    • 9.5 Dispatchers (presently have 8.5 Dispatchers)
    • 5.5 Security Ambassadors (presently 4.5 Ambassadors)
  • Along with the main campus & CSC safety responsibilities, we also cover the Community Clinics:
    • Whittier, Brooklyn Park, Richfield, Golden Vally, North Loop & St. Anthony.
      • Note: East Lake is covered by Hennepin County Security.
  • We are also developing plans to have CSO's (Crisis Stabilization Officers) to assist with Behavioral Health and BERT response.
    • Said CSO's will have expanded training that focuses on de-escalation and crisis intervention.
    • Plan to have the CSO program in place by 1st Qtr. of 2025 if not earlier.
  • On average, the Security Officers handle about 100,000 calls per year.
  • On average the Security Dispatchers/SOC perform about 1 million tasks a year. Said SOC not only handle all Security related calls & radio traffic, however they also handle Facilities radio traffic & related calls. Also, all panic and intercom alarms/activations.
  • The Security Dept also offers/handles/assists with Risk Assessments, Threat Assessments, Training and Investigations.
  • Our initial training is comprised of eight active/intense weeks.
  • Annual training is comprised of refresher training and is held quarterly
