Arthur L. Ney, MD Endowed Chair for Trauma

Investing in the Future of Surgical Excellence

A team of specially trained doctors, nurses, social workers, and support staff are ready to manage the most urgent and complex cases 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The pace can be relentless. Nonetheless, each day the dedicated team shows up to provide the best care possible. When the unimaginable happens, you want care at Hennepin Healthcare.

This legacy is due to the unwavering commitment of Dr. Arthur (Art) Ney to strive for the highest level of verification and excellence in clinical care. Dr. Ney’s advocacy and steadfast work awarded HCMC with dual verification, which ensures Hennepin Healthcare can provide the highest level of trauma care and allow families to stay together when multiple individuals, including adults and children, require care.

In recognition of his vast contributions to Hennepin Healthcare, an endowment will be established and named for Dr. Ney. A meaningful and permanent form of philanthropy, an endowed chair reflects one of the most significant honors in academic hospitals. The Arthur L. Ney Endowed Chair for Trauma will secure Hennepin Healthcare as a national leader by investing in the program’s four pillars of excellence: critical care, research, training and education, and innovation.

The named chair will be a member of the department of surgery working in the field of trauma surgery with strong interest in advancing the field through quality improvement, research, and innovation.

Funds for the endowed chair will be used to:

  • Support the expansion of critical work and research
  • Enhance recruitment and retention efforts for medical leadership
  • Advance innovation and secure the future as a national leader in trauma excellence
  • Strengthen research of the complex challenges of life-threatening illness and injury to improve patient care

Endowed chairs provide sustainable resources for leaders to advance areas of excellence. Trauma is etched into the DNA of Hennepin Healthcare and provides critical care across the Emergency Department, Burn Department, Operating Rooms, and Intensive Care Units. As the volume of trauma cases increase year over year, now is the time to invest in the life-saving work of the Hennepin Healthcare trauma program. Your generosity ensures a robust and innovative future for surgical medicine.

It's been a privilege to work with Art for all these years and it’s been a great partnership. So, as I look through other trauma centers in the United States, you realize the great resources they had…And that we did this with a lot less resources than most trauma centers did. It tells you all the work that Art did. - Dr. Mark Odland
