In recognition of National Injury Prevention Day, Hennepin Healthcare is proud to host the 3rd Annual Baby Safety Shower on Friday, November 21 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Redleaf Center for Family Healing.
This free event is open to expecting parents and caregivers of children under the age of three. Attendees will learn about the most common preventable injuries treated at Hennepin Healthcare from our medical staff, including:
- Burn prevention
- Animal safety
- Car seat use
- Safe firearm storage
- Fall prevention
- Water safety
- Poison prevention
- And more
Participants will also receive evidence-based injury prevention resources to help keep their children safe at home.
“Unintentional injury remains the leading cause of death in this age group, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics,” says Kaytlin Hanson, M.S., CCC-SLP, Trauma Prevention Specialist. “Our expert team is among the best in the nation at saving lives and treating these injuries, but every traumatic injury leaves a lasting impact on the child and their family. It’s heartbreaking to witness, which is why we’re committed to raising awareness and sharing practical strategies to prevent these tragedies. The Baby Safety Shower is a fun and engaging way to connect families with life-saving information and free resources during an already vulnerable time for many.”
